SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Ruth 2: 1-13

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 18:1-19

HYMN OF THE DAY: #714 “For the Fruit of All Creation” http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/f/f211.html

VERSE OF THE DAY: Just then Boaz arrived from Bethlehem and greeted the harvesters,

“The Lord be with you!”  “The Lord bless you!” they called back. Ruth 2:4 NIV

The Passing of the Peace done at First Christian Church has its origins in the above verse.

Boaz was good man.  He treated his workers fairly.  He allowed the poor (like Ruth) to glean, according to the Mosaic Law (see Leviticus 19:9-10), even when some of the others didn’t (implied by his words to Ruth in verses 8-13).  He followed the law when he sought to marry her.  The story ends with him marrying this young woman he was so enamored with and becoming the great-grandfather of King David.  Who says nice guys finish last? His epitaph probably read, “He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord”.  Isn’t that what we would want to be said about us?  Just like Boaz, God gives us the opportunities to do right.  What you make of those opportunities is up to you.

PRAYER: O God of Righteousness, help me make the most of the opportunities you give me.  I realize the people I meet and the work I do could have great importance to you beyond what I can see, so help me act in faith and righteousness to do your will. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
