SCRIPTURE OF THE
DAY: Ruth 3:1-5; 4:13-17
PSALM OF THE WEEK:
Psalm 18:1-19
HYMN OF THE DAY:
#618 “How Firm a Foundation” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/f/hfirmafo.htm
VERSE OF THE DAY:
She said to her, “All you tell me to do, I will do.” Ruth 3:5
NRSV
What Naomi asked Ruth to do was to sleep with a man who
was a kinsman (and thus had the right to redemption) of her late husband so he
would marry her. It seems obvious to me from reading the text that he had
already fallen for her and vice-versa. He does seek his right of
redemption, offering it first to one closer relative who wanted just her late
husband’s field but not the women who go with it. Remember when Ruth told
Naomi that she would follow her and make her God, her own? (Ruth 1:16b – see
Thursday’s devotion) Now she had to put that promise into practice.
Sometimes it is easy to say we will follow God, but it becomes much harder to
put it into practice. To truly follow God, we must do both. The best thing
we can do with our life is to say to God, “All you tell me to do, I will do” and
then actually do it.
PRAYER: O God who calls me by name, all you tell me to do I
will do. Where you send me, I will go. I will try to live my life by
following you completely. Amen.
See you in Church Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
