SCRIPTURE OF THE
DAY: Matthew
17:1-13
PSALM OF THE
WEEK: Psalm
131
HYMN OF THE
DAY: #595
“Be Thou My Vision” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/b/t/btmvison.htm
VERSE OF THE
DAY: “This
is my son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased. Listen to him!” Matthew
17:5b NIV
The words spoken from the bright
cloud are for us. In this narrative, Peter had already figured out that
Jesus was the Christ (Messiah) and the Son of God (verse 16:16). What do
you do about that? Peter was busy talking, offering to build three
shelters. The Voice said, “Listen to him!” Think about that.
We get busy talking or working in the church. We think we are doing God’s
will. God speaks and tells us that if we really believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Beloved Son of the Living God, then we must listen to him. We must hear his
words in scripture and by the Holy Spirit and we must put that into
action.
PRAYER: O God of Light;
let me hear your small, still voice, and read your words for me in the
scriptures. Then help me to understand and apply them in my life. May I
always be listening to you and not the voices that would lead me astray.
Amen.
See you in Church
Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
