SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Matthew 17:14-23

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 131

HYMN OF THE DAY: #535 “Faith, While Trees Are Still in Blossom” [no link available]

VERSE OF THE DAY: And they were greatly distressed. Matthew 17:23b NRSV

Once again Jesus tried to tell the disciples the cold hard truth.  The previous time, Peter rebuked him (verse 16:23).  This time they were “distressed”.  Sometimes the Lord says things that we just don’t like.  The disciples didn’t like the idea of the crucifixion and resurrection. When it did happen they doubted (Matthew 28:16), were fearful (Mark 16:8), and were in joyful disbelief (Luke 24:41).  He tired to tell them this would happen.  What about us?  Do we really listen when the Lord is revealing his plan to us, or are we so intent on what we want God’s will to be, that we, like them, misinterpret it?   God continues to do things that are far beyond our understanding. We just have to trust and not fear.

PRAYER: O God who can do anything; Use my life for your purposes.  I know that what you do might not be what I want, but I will trust you through everything. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
