Devotion from Pastor Sandy
Tuesday, August 5, 2008
SCRIPTURE OF THE
DAY: Romans
13:1-7
PSALM OF THE
WEEK: Psalm
115
HYMN OF THE
DAY: CH#720
“O Beautiful for Spacious Skies” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/o/b/obfsskis.htm
VERSE OF THE
DAY: Pay to
all what is due them – taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is
due, honor to whom honor is due. Romans 13:7 NRSV
This may qualify as the least
favorite bible verse of most people. We just can’t use the fact that we
are Christians to get out of paying our taxes, our bills, or paying respect to
those to whom it is due. In fact, as Christians we should be setting the
example for others. Too many people today cheat on taxes, steal by various
ways (including shoplifting/drive offs, padding time cards, and getting into
“get rich quick” schemes), and totally disrespect everyone. We can’t do
any of that. We are to be the “light of the world” and as such we must set
a good example. There are too many people watching us, and some only are
looking for things to use against all Christians, so we are to be honest and
respectful in all our dealings.
PRAYER: O God over all
Authority, help me be honest and respectful in all my dealings with
others. I know you want to be a good example, so help me overcome the many
temptations to do otherwise. Amen.
See you in Church
Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
