VERSE OF THE
DAY: The
commandments, “You shall not commit adultery; You shall not murder; You shall
not steal; You shall not covet”; and any other commandment, are summed up in
this word, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Romans 13:9
NRSV
Here it is again! Those of you
who have read these for some time and/or heard me preach know exactly where I am
going with this when you read the above verse, don’t you? In the Old
Testament there are 10 Commandments and 5 books of “The Law” (or Torah).
Judaism still has the Torah, the Talmud, the Midrash, and the
Mishnah. In the New Testament, however, we only have two commandments
given by Jesus: Love the Lord your God with all your heart, mind, body &
soul; and Love your neighbor as yourself. In Romans, we again find this
same command, for all the Ten Commandments fall into these commands. We
need to live out the Two Commandments. If we really live these out, we
fulfill all ten of the Old Testament commandments and all of what God calls us
to do. We can’t love God, if we don’t love people. We can’t love people,
if we don’t love everybody (including the “unlovable” ones). We can’t love
anybody unless we show that with our actions. So it all comes down to how
we act toward others. Let us love each other as Christ loves
us.
PRAYER: O God of Love,
your love for me is beyond measure. Help me to love all your creation in
the same way. Let my actions show your love to everyone.
Amen.
See you in Church
Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
