SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Romans 13:11-14

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 115

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#231 “Sing of One Who Walks Beside Us” [no link available]

VERSE OF THE DAY: Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and debauchery, not in dissension and jealousy. Romans 13:13 NIV

I suspect some people would like to edit this verse.  They would want to place more emphasis on the items that others do and delete whatever they do. Some people may not like seeing dissension and jealously listed as equivalent to orgies, drunkenness, sexual immorality, and debauchery, but here it is. It isn’t just what someone else does that is wrong, it is what we are tempted to that we must avoid. Our lives truly are “out in the daylight” for others to see.  Sometimes people think they have been really good at hiding their indiscretions, or that they aren’t the ones who are quarrelsome (just the people who disagree with them are).  However, the truth is that not only does God know the truth, but everyone else usually sees it as well.  This verse’s admonition to us is for us be careful in our lives and live like we really are God’s people in all that we do.

PRAYER: O God who knows All; help me avoid the temptations that would call me away from you.  May I not be so quick to judge others for what they do but always try to do my best to serve you in all I do. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
