SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Romans 2:17-29

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 14

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#265 “Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/s/o/sogdumyh.htm

VERSE OF THE DAY: You, then, who teach others, do you not teach yourself?  Romans 2: 21a NIV

This verse is part of a longer passage that reminds us that whatever we “preach” we must also live.  Preachers know that they are often preaching to themselves.  Sunday School teachers frequently learn as much as the students when they prepare the lessons. Parents, reading Bible stories to their children, often find the Word speaks to them, too.  Churches realize that their minister must always be learning.  That is why there is a “book allowance”, continuing education time and money, and why we expect ministers to attend Regional and General Assemblies, etc.  Yet, we ministers aren’t the only ones teaching people.  Whether you want it or not, whether you recognize it or not, you are teaching people all the time.  Every time people see you, they watch you, they learn from you about your belief in God.  How you live teaches others how to live (this, of course, is especially true of parents with young children).  You do teach.  Do you also learn?  It is important to always be learning about the God you serve.  Sunday School, Fellowship Groups, Worship, these devotions, your quiet time with God, can all be moments when God teaches you.  How many of these opportunities do you participate in?  If we are to properly teach our family, friends, neighbors, and strangers, about our Glorious and Wonderful God, we need to also be listening to the instructions of our Lord and living them out.

PRAYER: O Ever Teaching Lord, open my mind and my heart to your instructions.  May I listen to your words.  Help me to teach myself and others of your ways by the life I live. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
