SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Romans 2:1-16

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 14

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#73 “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/t/h/e/therwide.htm

VERSE OF THE DAY: Therefore you have no excuse whoever you are, when you judge others; for in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge are doing the very same things. Romans 2:1 NRSV

Recently, an internet pornography trial in California was postponed when it was discovered that the judge – who had been mentioned as possibly the next Supreme Court nominee – had posted hard porn on his own website.  The judge said he thought they should still let him hear the trial because he felt that he could still be a fair and impartial judge in this case because he didn’t know that the public could access websites.  Huh? Don’t we expect more from our judges?  Doesn’t everyone look upon us the same way when we seek to judge others?  At the final judgment, there is only one person you will have to answer for – you.  The way you judge others is the way you, yourself, will be judged (see the verse above and Matthew 7:1-2).  It may be easier to pass judgment on others for what they do than it is to correct our own wrongs, but when we do, it only spotlights our own failings.

PRAYER: Eternal Judge, look upon me with your mercy, forgive my sins, let me forgive and not judge others. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
