SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: I Chronicles 17:16-27

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 34

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#289 “What Is This Place” [no link available]

VERSE OF THE DAY: Then King David went in and sat before the Lord, and said, “Who am I, O Lord God, and what is my house, that you have brought me thus far?”  1 Chronicles 17:16 NRSV [note: this lectionary goes through the books in order, rather than using a chronological order that would have had us bouncing around between books, which puts us back in time to King David again.]

Do you ever ask the question that David asked?  Who am I that the Lord has brought me thus far?  If we think about it, it really is amazing.  God cared for each one of us, even long before any of us were born.  God loved us enough to send Jesus as God Incarnate, to take our sins to the cross.  Why?  Why would God love you or me that much?  That is the nature of God’s love.  We don’t deserve it (although some people are egotistical and sinful enough to believe they do).  We can only accept it and live it out.  When the great God, creator of everything from the smallest sub-atomic particle to the whole vast universe, loves you that much, the only appropriate response to love God back with our entire life and all our actions in it.  Who am I?  Who are you?  Why would God bring us this far in life?  We are people made of God, for God, to love God and each other.  Amazing, isn’t it?

PRAYER: O Great Loving God, who am I that you love me so much?  Help me to show that love back to you and to others so they may also come to know the wonder of your all encompassing love and power.  Glory and blessings to you forever, Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
