SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Matthew 25:1-13

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 46

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#586 “Open My Eyes, That I May See” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/o/p/openeyes.htm

VERSE OF THE DAY: “Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Matthew 25:13 NRSV

This parable is more than just the story of an oil shortage.  The wedding has begun.  We are in it.  It is called the church.  It is one big party according to this parable and others Jesus told.  We are just waiting on the groom so that the party can really begin.  Some people just aren’t ready for this party.  They thought is was to have been earlier or later or whenever.  They didn’t come on in.  When the groom (Jesus) arrives for his bride (the church) then they will want to join in the fun, but he says to them that he never knew them (see verse 12).  Scary thought, isn’t it?  We can be short of Faith and not make it in, or we can put our faith into action and be part of the celebration.  Foolish people won’t do that, but the wise ones will joyfully be enjoying life by truly living everyday as though the Lord was coming today (and he might!).

PRAYER: O Coming Lord, let me celebrate everyday here with you by living out my faith in service to you through others.  May my lamp be ready and the light of my faith be shining brightly when you come get me. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
