| From: Pastor Sandy Downs [pastor@movpdoc.org] Sent: Monday, March 03, 2008 4:31 AM To: Mid Ohio Valley Parish Subject: Monday Devotion from Pastor Sandy Monday, March 3, 2008 SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Leviticus 19:1-2 PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 138 HYMN OF THE DAY: #572 "Take Time to Be Holy" VERSE OF THE DAY: "You shall be holy for I the LORD your God am holy." Lev 19:2b NRSV What does it mean to be holy? In Romans 12:1-2, Paul call on us Christians "to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing our minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God - what is good, acceptable, and perfect." In other words, our bodies and our lives are the real "tabernacle" or "temple" of God. God made it for that purpose. God wants us to use it correctly. This then is the simple test of what we do with our bodies and our lives. Does it honor God? If the yes, it's good. If not, we should avoid it. In the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) we don't have a lot of "rules and regulations" of things "you can or can't do." We simply point to these verses in Leviticus and Romans, and expect you to live your life in as much of a holy way as you can. We are not to be "holier than thou". Our job is not to judge others, whether they are "holy enough" or not. Our job is to be as holy as we can be. In other words, live today like your body is a beautiful, ecumenical, Christian Church. It is. PRAYER: O Holy God; you have made me to be your living temple. Help me live a life that brings honor and glory to you, not me. Help me be a healthy, strong, living witness for you. Amen. See you in Church Sunday, Pastor Sandy |
