SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: Matthew 21:33-46

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 24

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH#275 “Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation” http://www.oremus.org/hymnal/c/c063.html or http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/c/m/cmadesur.htm

VERSE OF THE DAY: Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the scriptures: ‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone [or keystone]; this was the Lord’s doing and it is amazing in our eyes’?” Matthew 21:42 NRSV [with footnotes]

Jesus was rejected by his own people.  He continues to be rejected even today. Some people find it very uncomfortable to talk about Jesus, for the fear that the person they’re talking to will reject them.  We all have the fear of rejection.  But it isn’t us they are rejecting. They are rejecting the one who sent us.  Too often, people have invited someone to church, only to be rejected so they stop inviting people.  It isn’t you or the church they are rejecting, it is the Lord.  I even know some people who don’t attend church because they think it is part of their rebellion against their parents, but it isn’t their parents they are rejecting, it is God.  In other words, there are a lot of ways people reject the Lord.  However, he is still the cornerstone, keystone, or capstone, (the words literally mean the chief or head stone).  The point is that you can either reject him or use him.  It doesn’t change him.  It does, however, affect your life, now and eternally.  So, we keep on trying to tell people about our Lord, to invite them to church, and to live a life that is the witness that the Lord is the head or chief over us.

PRAYER: O Chief Stone rejected by many, help me to never reject you in any way but to always to reaching out to others in your name without the fear of the hurt of rejection. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
