VERSE OF THE DAY: We have not ceased praying for you and asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:9b-10 NRSV

 

What is the purpose of belonging to a church?  Here you see the very reason why we join together as a church.  We pray for each other.  We encourage each other to lead lives worthy of our Lord.  We “bear fruit in every good work” as we minister to each other and to the world.  We continue to grow in our knowledge and understanding of the Lord as we study together.  Through Worship, Sunday School, Fellowship Groups, and our various ministries, we join together to do more than any of us could ever do separately.  The church is not an institution for us to belong to – it is the Body of Christ, and we are the members of that body, working together for his glory and honor.  May we all continue to grow in the spiritual wisdom that is manifest in Christ’s church.

 

PRAYER: O God of Faithfulness; it is always tempting for all of us to go our separate, individual ways; bind us together as your faithful church that is praying without ceasing.  Fill us with your Holy Spirit. Grow us in your knowledge. Keep us in your presence. Use us as your hands and lips to serve you in all we do. Amen.
