VERSE OF THE
DAY: I want
their hearts to be encouraged and united in love, so that they have all the
riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery, that
is, Christ himself, in whom are hidden all the reassures of wisdom and
knowledge. Colossians 2:2-3 NRSV
People like to find riches – the
treasures of this world. People seek knowledge – the wisdom of our own
understandings. Yet, in Christ there is greater riches, greater treasure,
greater knowledge, and greater wisdom, than anything this world has to
offer. In Christ, we are fulfilled with the greater, spiritual versions of
the things we all long for. We have to make a choice of which one we seek
– either the temporary visible offering of this transient life or the permanent
invisible offerings of the eternal life. Paul encouraged all people to
seek the greater offerings through love. So should we. A lot of
people are being led astray by the smooth-talking advocates of the temporal life
(see verse 2:4). We need to inspiring them to something greater (see verse
1:28-29). We can only so this as we live out our life “encouraged and
united in love.” Christ calls us to be his loving witnesses to the
world. They need what we have: Christ Jesus who lives in us and works
through us daily.
PRAYER: O God of Glory;
my soul longs for your treasures over the ones that this world keeps tempting me
with. Give me the strength, the encouragement, the perseverance, to
continue only in your way, and not to stray to the ways of this world. May
all I do be for your glory and a witness of your great Way.
Amen.
See you in Church
Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
