SCRIPTURE OF THE DAY: I Timothy 2:1-15

PSALM OF THE WEEK: Psalm 94:12-22

HYMN OF THE DAY: CH# 345 “Thy Life was Giv’n for Me” http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/i/g/igavemyl.htm#alternate

VERSE OF THE DAY: First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone. 1 Timothy 2:1 NRSV

Pray for everyone.  The next line (verse 2a) specifically mentions “kings”, which were the rulers then, so we interpret this to mean all national leaders.  We need to pray for each other, for everyone on our prayer lists, for the leaders of our churches, and – especially in a national election year – the leaders (and all those are seeking to be the leaders) of our nation and the other nations of the world.  We need to pray for peace (see verse 2b) so that the message of Christ may be spread in peace.  We need to pray those who haven’t accepted Christ that they will (see verses 4 & 7).  We need to pray for the spiritual, financial, and numerical growth of our churches (see verse 4-6).  We need to pray for ourselves that we may be an example of what is to “pray, lifting up holy hands without anger of argument” (see verse 8).  Most of all, we need to pray.

PRAYER: O God who hears and answers all prayers; as I pray for everyone and everything help me to feel your compassion towards others, your desire for their peace and salvation, and your love toward us all. Amen.

See you in Church Sunday,

Pastor Sandy
