VERSE OF THE
DAY: Be
careful then how you live, not as unwise people but as wise, making the most of
the time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15-16
NRSV
It doesn’t take much time listening
to the news to agree that these days are evil. Too many people in this
country and around the world live only for their own evil desires. Selfishness
and greed are rampart, and that leads to even more problems. Here, the Apostle
even goes so far as to say that people who are greedy are idolaters and won’t
get any inheritance from God (see verse 5). We, however, are to be above
all that. Although we constantly hear the message (through our culture and
through advertisements) that should want more, and live for our own desires; we
must show the rest of the world through our actions that we believe in something
better. We are to live as “children of light” (see verses 8-9). That
means that we are to be living openly good, well-meaning lives for Jesus
Christ. People see what is in the light, so people are watching. Our
lives are the most important part of our witness for Christ. Let us be
wise and live for our Lord who died for us.
PRAYER: O God of Life
and Light; let my life be a shining example for you. May I be wise enough
to turn away from all the temptations that would pull me away from your
presence, for I truly want to live in your Light all the time.
Amen.
See you in Church
Sunday,
Pastor
Sandy
