Downs III, Pastor – 740-525-8649 Dr. Bonnie Buchman, Parish Nurse - 304-424-3821                                                                                                                                                                                                   ____                                      Volume 48 No. 10                                                         November 7, 2007   From the Pastor                             Doesn’t it seem strange to have a “season” of Thanksgiving?  Shouldn’t we be in a spirit of Thanksgiving all the time?  And while we are at it, is overeating and watching football really the way to show we are thankful to God?  Not that I would really want to change our American Tradition, but sometimes I think we just need to stop and take time in our celebration of thanksgiving to really reflect on what it is we are so thankful for.  More importantly, we need to be very mindful of who we are thankful to. Remember, everything we have is a gift from God. Through Jesus Christ we have eternal life.  Everything else pales in comparison to that gift.  We are truly thankful to God for that and all other gifts. This Thanksgiving Day, the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Parkersburg will host the second annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner.  More than just a celebration for our church family, or just our neighbors, or just the homeless or hungry, this dinner is truly giving Thanksgiving to and for a community in the Name of Christ.  We welcome everyone to come and participate.  This truly wonderful ministry of the Mid-Ohio Valley Parish requires lots of work.  I have been told that people start preparing on Tuesday evening, work almost all day Wednesday, serve and clean up on Thursday. So come, help, celebrate, enjoy, and give thanks to God with a joyful, thankful heart.   See You in Church Sunday,   Pastor Sandy
